The Clinton-Massie boys bowling team is coached by Tyler Hayslip this season.
The Falcons won the SBAAC American Division championship in 2018 then watched as Wilmington won the next three crowns, sharing the 2021 title with Western Brown.
But Clinton-Massie could be back in the mix for top team honors this season.
Massie had several underclassmen last season earn all-league honors. Tyler Keck (192 average) was first team as a junior while Cole Johnson (180.8 average) was second team as a junior and Gavan Hunter (189.1 average) was second team as a sophomore.
Mitchell Lennon was the main graduate off last season’s team.
Hayslip, four years the coach of the Falcons, will be assisted by Wynnetta Johnston.
Clinton-Massie has four returning starters and newcomers Mason Keck, Corvin Pittenger and Sam Massie who will contribute this season.
“I really enjoy this year’s team chemistry,” said Hayslip, a CMHS graduate. “This same group of young men have been bowling together since their freshman year. They know what to expect out of each other and know how to get the best out of each other.”
Consistency within a match and making adjustments in-game will be keys for the Falcons. Hayslip believes his team can win the American Division and reach goals such as sectional champions and state qualifiers.
To do that, the Falcons must “bowl as a team and not lose games that we are expected to win,” Hayslip said.
