Wilmington drops doubleheader to Muskingum

WILMINGTON, Ohio – The Wilmington College baseball team dropped an Ohio Athletic Conference doubleheader Sunday to Muskingum, 14-4 and 5-4, at Tewksbury-Delaney Field.

Wilmington (2-14) led game two 4-3 in the ninth but Muskingum rallied for the win.

Clinton-Massie graduate Gabe McDowell singled in game one. Evan Kelsey and JP Donelan had two hits each. Max Gildea, JC Calhoun and Donelan drive in runs.

In the second game, Eli Hollingsworth and Kelsey had run-producing singles in the third to tie the game 2-2. WC went up 3-2 on an AJ Wolf RBI single. Kelsey and Wolf both finished with two hits.

In the eighth, Wilmington regained the lead when AJ Jennings was hit by a pitch and Carter Scheben doubled. Jennings came home on a wild pitch to break a 3-3 tie.

Wilmington had two errors on defense to allow Muskingum to take a 5-4 lead. The Quakers loaded the bases in the ninth but failed to score.

Kelsey and Wolf finished with two hits. Hollingsworth, Kelsey and Wolf drive in runs. JC Calhoun walked twice.

Clinton-Massie grad Luke Chappie, Michael Cibulskas, Trent Mendenhall, and Nathan Powers combined for seven innings of relief work on the mound and allowed two unearned runs.

The Quakers will face Wittenberg 6:30 p.m. Tuesday in Springfield.
