Heys, Hickey perform well for Quaker track, field teams

ATHENS, Ohio – The Wilmington College track & field teams competed in an unscored Cherry Blossom Invitational Saturday at Ohio University.

Simon Heys competed at the Bucknell Bison Outdoor Classic in the 10,000-meter run and finished second in a solid field with a time of 29:17.58. This time slots him third in Division III in this event.

In the men’s meet at OU, Wilmington took the top four places in the hammer throw with Nathen Borgan winning the event with a mark of 61.93 meters. He has thrown over 60 meters in all four meets during the outdoor season.

Jarrett Durr was second with a career best toss of 60.85, Nate Marcum was third 52.75 and Justin Shuga fourth 52.70.

Shuga also led the Quakers in the shot putS with throw of 14.38 meters. Mike Soltis finished behind Shuga at 13.65.

Also in the throws, Perry Kingrey was third in the javelin with a career best toss of 43.12 meters.

On the track, Tate Yoder finished fourth in the 3,000 meters in 8:51.70 while Dane Klosterman was seventh in the 400 hurdles in 58.73 seconds.

On the women’s side, Madison Diets was third in the long jump with a season best effort of 5.2 meters.

She also was part of the Quakers 4×100-meter relay team that finished sixth with a season-best time of 49.90 seconds. The team consisted of Dietz, Haley Cook, Chloe Sutton, and Rachel Spanfellner. Cook was fifth in the 400 (60.17).

In the field events, Kaitlynn Hickey finished eighth in the shot put with a toss of 11.15 meters, a season best for the Wilmington High School graduate.

Wilmington will be back in action Friday — at the Jesse Owens Classic at Ohio State and at the Otterbein Twilight.
