WC’s ‘Quaker Tank’ returns March 2

WILMINGTON — Prize money — potentially exceeding last year’s $5,000 — will be available to award to emerging entrepreneurs as Wilmington College presents Quaker Tank, its version of ABC TV’s popular Shark Tank March 2, from 7 to 8:30 p.m., in Hugh G. Heiland Theatre.

New Vienna Elementary NOVA STAR students for Jan. announced

The New Vienna Elementary NOVA STAR students for the month of January have been announced. They have shown great character, helped others and continue to work hard in class. Kindergarten NOVA STAR students are Brohdy Phillips, Kolton Cox and Anderson Hoak.

WHS superintendent talks changes coming to district

At the Washington Court House City School District’s school board meeting on Monday, superintendent Dr. Tom Bailey shared some of the recent and upcoming changes coming to Washington High School.

Recognizing Black History Month

February is the month set aside to call attention to the history of African-Americans living in our local community and across our nation. Much of this particular history has left a definite stain on our history as a nation. I have been transcribing information found in the Democrat and Herald published in Wilmington, Ohio from 1833 until 1840. It was very seldom that any mention was made of an African-American so I found the following item especially noteworthy.

Blanchester alumni announces two upcoming events

The Blanchester Alumni Association is preparing for the annual Alumni Banquet and a casual Wildcat Mixer. The Wildcat Mixer will be held on Friday, June 2 from 7– 11 p.m. at the Eagles Lodge at 210 Lazenby St. in Blanchester. This will be a casual gathering for any BHS alum (age 21 and up) and former/current teachers and administrators,. Snacks, soft drinks, and music will be provided; guests are welcome to BYOB. There is no charge for this event.

ECMS holds Astro Achiever Awards Breakfast

The East Clinton Middle School held its second quarter Astro Achiever Awards Breakfast on Wednesday, Feb. 8. Students were nominated by their teachers for demonstrating good citizenship in the classroom: honesty, integrity, responsibility, respectfulness, compassion, kindness, tolerance, courtesy, self-discipline, moral courage, and love of justice. Parents were invited with their student for a recognition ceremony and a donut breakfast.
